ArrangementCheryl Bentyne, Bobby McFerrin
Vocal lead, bass, and percussionBobby McFerrin
VocalsThe Manhattan Transfer (Cheryl Bentyne, Tim Hauser, Alan Paul, and Janis Siegel)
Soloist and IyricistJon Hendricks

The fascinating aspect of this performance is that McFerrin produces all the percussion and bass sounds vocally, demonstrating his expanded use of the voice to imitate traditional instruments. The soloist in this recording, Jon Hendricks, and The Manhattan Transfer are familiar to vocal jazz fans. Hendricks was first to set words to famous recorded instrumental solos, such as Coleman Hawkins's "Body and Soul," for which the term vocalese was coined. Many of The Manhattan Transfer arrangements are his. His own improvised solos speak to the hornlike concepts with which he has been involved since vocal bebop began.
